THE PRACTICAL PART
Rehearsals are held at Elm Road United Reformed Church, Gatley, on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. Click Here for Map For SatNav users the Post Code is SK8 4LY. There is a break at about 8:30 for socialising and refreshments (bring your own).
There are normally three concerts each year. A schedule of rehearsal and concert dates is published on the members' section of the website and is also available from the secretary.
We wear a uniform for the concerts which varies according to the type of programme. For men it is usually a dress suit and shirt (or other dark suit and white shirt) with black bow tie. Ladies’ uniform usually involves an ankle-length black skirt or trousers, with either black or white long-sleeved top. The clothes to be worn are announced in advance of a concert and items such as the ladies’ red scarf are available to borrow.
We are a registered charity; if you're interested in the details a copy of our constitution can be obtained from the chairman. An AGM is held in January, at which subscriptions for the coming year are agreed. They then become due, and UK tax-payers are encouraged to Gift-Aid them. Subscriptions can be paid in two instalments if preferred, and if you join during the year a part subscription is payable, by arrangement with the treasurer.
Music for a concert is provided by the choir, usually being hired from the library or copied from legitimate internet sources. Borrowed music should only be marked with soft pencil and such markings removed before return if possible. It is often collected in at the end of a concert but is due back at the latest by the Monday after. Members are liable for any expense (such as library fines, which could be considerable) arising out of late return of music.
Each section of the choir has a representative on the committee who will be pleased to help you settle in by answering any queries and passing on comments at any time.
